Use Choc Zero mini Marshmallows to make your own Freeze Dried

As a temporary fix, I have started making my own freeze dried Smallows in my toaster oven. I posted a review on December 2 explaining how I do it. I was so happy to see that another reviewer posted a few days later that they were very happy to get the idea of doing their own from reading my review. I have to say it thrills me so much that I was able to help that person. If anyone else wants to make their own, here is what I did …
I laid parchment paper on a baking sheet. Cut the mini marshmallows into quarters with scissors. Laid on hem on the parchment paper far enough apart so they didn’t stick together. I put them in my toaster oven for 3 1/2 hours at 170°. Once cooled, they are a crunchy sweet treat just like the freeze dried from Choc Zero. They are a lot of work but totally worth it while waiting for the freeze dried to come back in stock.

Large jar disappeared

What happened to the large jar that you used to offer?

Sadly, we had to discontinue the larger jars after our jar supplier raised their prices substantially. They would have ended up costing more to make than we could sell them for. That said, we offer the 4oz jars in a 4-pack bundle which saves 21% so folks who love them can still get a great deal. Thanks so much!

I miss these so much I've begun dehydrating the mini smallows as a substitute

Thank you to the reviewer who posted about dehydrating ChocZero’s mini smallows as a substitute while these freeze-dried smallows have been out of stock. I tried it, and it really is the closest alternative I’ve found. I cut the mini smallows into fourths, as they did, but I have a food dehydrator, so I used that instead of an oven. I dehydrated them at 135°F for 9 hours. The result came out a little crunchier and a bit more strongly flavored than the actual freeze-dried smallows.

I also want to share why this product matters so much to me. I’m autistic, and for me, certain sensory experiences help with self-regulation. Food happens to be one of the most reliable ways my body regulates itself (unfortunately, I wish I had a choice of what form of stim would soothe me), and the specific textures and flavors that work for me are not easy to replace. I’m on a very limited income and, because of that, I can’t adjust my environment to reduce overstimulation, which. means finding a food that is soothing, slow to eat, sugar-free, and still supports my health has been extremely important.

These freeze-dried smallows have been the best option I’ve found, by far (I've searched high and low, in vain, for something cheaper or more locally available- not because these aren't worth the price, but just because I'm poor - that has the same effect on calming my system). I pair one ChocZero chocolate chip with one freeze-dried smallow and let them slowly melt together in my mouth— it provides exactly the sensory experience my system needs, and I can enjoy it for a long time without accumulating too many calories.

This product genuinely makes my day-to-day life easier and more manageable. I really appreciate it and hope it’s back in stock soon.

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing- I'm so happy to hear that we make treats that you enjoy and support you! Honestly, it's an honor that we make the perfect treat to suit your needs and I'm sorry they've been out of stock. I'm glad to hear that you found a way to dehydrate our other marshies and the good news is our original freeze-dried marshmallows should be back this month.

I needed to have my freeze dried goodness.

I needed to find a quick replacement for my freeze dried Smallows. I decided to buy the mini marshmallows from choc zero and try to dehydrate them myself. I laid down parchment paper into a baking sheet and place about a half to 3/4 of one bag on the parchment paper and baked them in my toaster oven at 170 degrees for 4 1/2 hours. They became gumball size by the time they were done and crispy. They were good, but they just weren’t right. I got my kitchen food scissors and cut each marshmallow into 4 quarters. Then baked them at 170degrees for 3-3 1/2 hours. I had a few containers left over that I kept from the 4 oz size little buckets for storage for my other things, so I filled one of those up and they were awesome!!! They’re a lot of work and not something I’m willing to do once the choc zero ones come back in stock, but they make an awesome replacement.

Love these in my cereal

So I'm a grandmother with a love of kid cereals. And also have to really watch my sugar intake. These are the solution, more grown up (high fiber, low sugar) cereals with a "kid" kick.
