What is teriyaki sauce?

Teriyaki sauce is a delicious Japanese staple that can be added to chicken wings, seafood, or even marinades to make a weekday dinner taste special. It consists of soy sauce (we will be using liquid aminos, more on that later), ginger, sesame oil, and maple syrup. We’ve added a couple other ingredients to really make it delicious, as well as our sugar free maple syrup so that there’s no hidden added sugars in this sauce.

When you make homemade teriyaki sauce, you know exactly what ingredients are being added without compromising on taste. Plus, this recipe is so easy and quick, it can be whipped up while your chicken wings are baking or in the airfryer. There’s so many things you can do with this sauce, including adding it to keto-friendly noodles such as Shirataki Noodles, or on top of some zoodles.

Why do you use liquid aminos in keto teriyaki sauce?

Since we like to keep it gluten free as much as possible, liquid aminos are a great alternative to soy sauce. Why are liquid aminos healthier than soy sauce? There are many soy sauces with added sugar, so liquid aminos can ensure that you’re getting a low carb and sugar free sauce.

So, what are liquid aminos made out of? This is a keto-friendly sauce made out of soybeans that have been broken down into a liquid that contains 0gs of carbs. Despite containing no sugar, liquid aminos tend to have a sweeter taste than typical soy sauce.

How do you make teriyaki sauce healthy?

The easiest way to make homemade teriyaki sauce healthier is to use keto maple syrup. This not only lowers the total calories, but also the amount of sugar. You can also use our sugar free caramel syrup for a more buttery sweet taste.

Can I use sugar free teriyaki sauce as a marinade?

You can absolutely use this low carb teriyaki sauce as a marinade. If you’re marinating salmon for an easy dinner, add the sauce to a gallon sized, sealable plastic bag. Then, add in your salmon and cover completely. Keep in the fridge for at least 2 hours to marinate. This method also works well for chicken thighs, beef skewers, and even veggies.

If you’re making chicken wings, you can either bake the wings separately and then toss in the sauce, or marinade the wings. If you choose to marinade, make sure to save some of the sauce for later. You can heat up the sauce on the stove until it begins to bubble and then pour on top of your wings.

Can I make this keto teriyaki sauce a glaze?

If you would like to create a glaze out of the teriyaki sauce, heat up the finished sauce on a low simmer. Keep an eye on the heat– you don’t want to over boil or turn the sauce into goop. Slowly add a 1/2 tsp of xanthan gum and whisk in until the sauce is shiny and thick. Immediately pour the teriyaki glaze over your protein of choice and enjoy.

What’s the difference between sesame oil and other cooking oils?

You might have noticed that this recipe calls for sesame oil. If you’ve never cooked with it before, this is a delicious Asian style oil that adds a nutty flavor to the dish. If you want a more bold Japanese flavor, try toasted sesame oil. It packs a lot of roasted sesame and earthy flavor. We think sesame oil adds a lot of delicious umami flavor to teriyaki sauce, so we recommend using it.

How do I store teriyaki sauce?

You can store homemade keto teriyaki sauce in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks.
