Need to get back on your keto journey, but you're craving take-out? Try this sweet and spicy air fryer keto chicken.
Try these easy, keto friendly Korean chicken drumsticks that are quicker than ordering take-out. This simple chicken dish can be made in the air fryer, so they're crispy and crunchy. We think this low carb chicken dish tastes like it's been deep fried, but it's a healthier for you option. We use avocado oil which is high in healthy fats and liquid aminos which are low in carbs. This lets you create your own Korean Fried Chicken without all the carbs and sugars. If you're looking for a meal to help you stay on your keto journey, or you're just starting out, this is a low carb option to breaded fried chicken.
To make this a spicy and sweet keto dish, we've used our sugar free maple syrup. It's thick and delicious, perfect for cooking low carb savory dishes as a one to one substitute for regular maple syrup. You can also use our sugar free caramel syrup for a more buttery sweet taste.
Since most gochujang is high in carbs and sugar, we've decided to use Sriracha sauce in its place. If it fits your macros, you can use the fermented chili paste, just be aware of the ingredients on the label. You can also use chicken thighs for a more authentic taste and higher fat, just follow your air fryer instructions on cooking them. We love serving this dish up with some cauliflower rice or shirataki noodles, but it also makes an amazing game day keto appetizer.
Toss chicken drumsticks with avocado oil, salt, white pepper, and Korean chili flakes.
Place the drumsticks into the air fryer basket and cook at 350°F.
While the chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce. To a pan add sugar free maple syrup, sriracha, ketchup, soy sauce, allulose, vinegar, ginger, garlic, and chili flakes. Simmer over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens then set aside.
After the chicken has cooked for 20 minutes add the shishito peppers to the basket and lightly spray the chicken and peppers with cooking spray. Cook for another 10 minutes at 400°F.
Pour sauce over the drumsticks and toss to coat. Garnish with scallions, sesame seeds, and cilantro.
